Itinerary - Everest Base camp Itinerary Day 1 – Arrival to KatmanduArrival to Katmandu and transfer to Radisson Hotel (5*). Short walk through Thamel, Katmandu's touristic center, with its varied handcrafts market, restaurants and cafés. Day 2 – KatmanduIn the morning, two important temples of Katmandu will be visited. The first one is called Pashupatinat, dedicated to the god Shiva. It is Nepal’s most important Hindu temple, where cremations take place. The second temple will be Boudhnat, Nepal’s biggest and most active temple, located in the heart of the city's Buddhist area. Day 3 – KatmanduIn the morning, we will walk around Dubar Square, the old Royal Palace's plaza, a beautiful arquitectural complex with the palace and temples with countless different styles all around it. In the afternoon we'll check all the trekking equipment and make any necessary purchases. Day 4 – Flight from Katmandu to Lukia and walk to MonjoFlight from Katmandu to Lukia (9,186 ft), in the Khumbu region, where we will begin the trek. The flight will probably be one of the trip's most intense memories because of the amazing view of the Himalayas we will have. The dreamy mountains are there with heights we never dreamed possible. 5 hr walk to Monjo (8,530 ft), where we’ll sleep at the edges of the Dudh Kosi, or the milk river, that comes directly from the Everest glacier. This is an easy day to start adapting the walking pace. Day 5 – Mojo-Namche BazaarSix-hour walk to Namche Bazaar (11,155 ft), the Khumbu region's largest town. This is a reasonably difficult day, it is only our second and there is a big difference in altitude, but the views of the Dudh Kosi valley and our first view of our objective, the Everest, make the effort completely worth it. Day 6 – Namche Bazaar – ThamoFour-hour walk to Thamo’s town (11,155 ft). This town is located in the outsides of the regular trekking rout, therefore for our acclimatization process we will visit the small and rarely visited Laudo Monastery, which is 12,467 ft away. Once there, Ani and Lama, the only monks that live in that monastery since over 20 years ago, will warmly welcome us. We’ll be there a few hours contemplating the snowed mountains around us inside a refuge of peace and silence. We’ll be accompanied by the light sound of bells moving with the wind. It will be one of the sweetest experiences of our trekking. Day 7 – Thamo - KundeThree-hour walk to Kunde (12139 ft), another town outside the traditional trekking route. There you can find one of the hospitals maintained by the Hilary foundation (the first person to ever climb the Everest). In the afternoon, we’ll walk to a 13,123 ridge for acclimatization. Kunde is located in a beautiful horseshoe-shaped valley, with views of one of the most beautiful mountains on the planet, the Ama Dablam. Day 8 – Kunde - TembocheFive-hour walk to Temboche (12467 ft). This is the biggest monastery in Khumbu, and the center of important Buddhist festivals. It was destroyed in a fire in 1,989, and is now completely rebuilt, keeping its old magnificence. We will stay in one of the newest lodges with a view of the Everest in every room. The sunrises are spectacular. We will appreciate the giant Himalayas as well as Tramserku, Kantega, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Nupse and, of course, the Everest, it being illuminated by the dim light of the sunrise, all by simply opening our room's curtains. Day 9 – Temboche - DimbocheFive-hour walk to Dimboche (13780 ft). This is Khumbu’s highest town with permanent residents. On the way there we will stop and visit the Pangboche monastery where the respectable Lama Geishe Rimpoche will give us the blessing to visit the mountains. We'll be entering the home of the gods, and the blessing of Chomolungma, the mother god of Earth, will protect us in the days to come. Day 10 – DimbocheThis day we'll sleep an extra night in Dingboche. To solidify our acclimatacion, we’ll go up to Chokkung (15,420 ft) to adapt to its height and appreciate the valley. For those with energy and already acclimated, the Chokkung Ri can be climbed. It is located 17,389 ft away and has a view of the southern wall of Lhotse, 9,843 ft of vertical ice and rock, as well as Island Peak, Baruntse and Makalu, the 5th tallest mountain on Earth. Day 11 – Dimboche - LobucheSix-hour walk to Lobuche (16,076 ft). Here, the scenery changes completely to alpine vegetation. We’ll be walking surrounded by some of the highest peaks in the world. We will be in the heart of the Himalayas. Here we will walk only a few miles after lunch; it is an exhausting walk due to altitude and inclination. At the end of this climb we'll see the Memorial of the Sherpas that died climbing Mount Everest. Day 12 – Lobuche - Gorak Shep - Kala Patar - GorakIn the morning we’ll walk for three hours to Gorak Shep (16,732 ft). After lunch we’ll take a break for a few hours and then we will start climbing Kala Patar to be able to watch the sun set over Mount Everest, which will now be four miles away. The ascent is very gradual and exhausting due to altitude. The orange light of the afternoon sun will be reflected in the mountains around us over a dark blue sky. The feeling we will have after reaching our goal will be rewarded by the view of indescribable beauty. A very exciting moment. The accommodation during the two days in Gorashep will be simple as there are no other options. Day 13 – Gorak Shep – Campo Base – Gorak ShepOn this day we’ll walk to the Everest base camp from Gorakshep, a place completely worth the effort. We will continue through the edges of the Khumbu glaciar until we get down to the snow. We will contemplate the amazing ice formations as we get closer to the base camp. At this time of the year, hundreds of climbers and Sherpas prepare themselves for the great challenge: to climb the highest peak in the world. This is an approximately six-hour walk. *Optional The people that would rather sleep in the Base Camp will walk the 12th day there and stay for two nights accompanied by a local and trustworthy guide. You will come back the 14th day so we can regroup and begin the descent. Day 14 – Gorak Shep – PericheOn this day we will start the walk back to Lukia on a different route. as we are descending we will visit the towns of Periche and Sonasa. Leaving Gorakshep we will lose altitud rapidly as we pass by Lobuche and Dugla. We will spend the night in Periche (13,000 ft). There is a medical clinic there, the Himalayan Rescue Association, and a monument to all the people who have lost their lives trying to climb the Everest. Day 15 – Periche - SonasaFive-hour walk from Periche to Sonasa (10,000 ft). We will go by the Tengboche monastery. Sonasa is right next to Namche Bazaar and is located on a ridge with a beautiful and now familiar mountain view. Now, with our mission accomplished and more than 6,500 ft under the Kalapatar, we can conmemorate our achievements with a naturally cold beer as we see the sunset painting the mountain tops gold. Day 16 – Sonasa - MonjoFrom Sonasa we will continue on a zig-zag road that will take us to Namche Bazaar, where we will have lunch. We will continue to the town of Monjos, where we will sleep. Day 17 – Monjo - LuklaThis day is our last day of trekking. We will walk back to Lukla in five hours. When we finish our trekking we will feel our heart divided between wanting to come back to Katmandu’s commodity and not wanting to leave the magical regions that will leave us so many memories. Day 18 – Flight from Lukla – KatmanduIn the morning we will fly back to Katmandu. We'll transfer to the hotel and the rest of the day is off. Day 19 – KatmanduVisit to Baktapur, a city located 10 miles away from Katmandu and that, until Nepal’s unification, was an independent kingdom. Of the cities in the valley, it is the best preserved and most medieval. Discovering its narrow streets and its Central Plaza is an experience that will take us back in time. Day 20 – Return Flight Transportation to the airport for international flight.
